Perky Planet: Coffee & Social Revolution
Perky Planet Coffee & Social Revolution is a coffee shop built from the ground up to provide meaningful, competitively paid employment for people with disabilities. Our intent is to identify barriers to employment and use universal design, new technologies and modified business practices to mitigate them.
My wife is a Special Educator and I have over 20 years of restaurant consulting and technology implementation – together we feel that we have the skill set to implement human centered design thinking as a way to create opportunities for positive social change. We intend to create a scalable, repeatable, profitable entrepreneurial opportunity and market it wherever the need exists.
A lease is signed eased and the opening of the first shop is scheduled for September in downtown Burlington. A key element of the business strategy is automation! Start off with one size drink to keep the training straightforward and simple. Customers and ordertakers will a Perky Planet App to place order, which creates more time for preparation. Initially, baked goods will be purchased, and later will be baked in house.
