Big Picture Beef
Grazier LLC launched the DBA, Big Picture Beef, in 2015. Revenues in 2017 were $217,000 and are predicted to grow 3 times in 2018 ($600 K+).
Big Picture Beef sells 100% grass-fed beef, raised and finished in the Northeast, and harvested and sold in the Northeast. The Northeast region described by the USDA includes all the New England states, NY, PA, MD, DE and WV.
Customers include the local Big Y chain (in all 70 stores), Black River Meats, River Valley Market, Essalon Cafe, Smith College and Fresh Direct.
Cow calf farmers from the region supply feeder calves to Big Picture Beef and we finish them on a forage-only diet on larger (300 to 2000 acre) finishing farms. There are currently approximately 612,000 beef calves born in our region annually, with most being aggregated and shipped west eventually ending up in feedlots. We intend to keep a much larger percentage of these calves in the Northeast, therefore retaining nutrients and sequestering carbon, fixing the local water cycle and creating quality rural jobs.
Currently Big Picture Beef has 4 employees and a contract bookkeeper. The current employees include CEO, Communications Director, Meat Specialist and Administrative Assistant.
